BAKERSFIELD FIRE STATION NO.14
AND NEIGHBORHOOD PARK

This 8,000 SF single-company fire station is situated on a 10-acre parcel that includes a neighborhood park. The project was important to and eagerly anticipated by the neighboring residents. Jim and Candice actively included the residents' participation in the design process, leading a Community Workshop where community members were invited to cast their votes on what style of architecture they would like to see in the design of the fire station.

While not a LEED®-certified project, sustainable design and energy conservation measures were incorporated into the project: building orientation, deep overhangs for protection from the valley sun, and an innovative mechanical system resulted in 50% energy savings.

Project completed while Candice Wong and Jim Duffy managed the Public Safety Studio at another firm. Jim was the Design Architect; Candice was the Project Manager and City's advisor on project compliance with their prototype fire station model.
