Splendor Ice Cream

Splendor brings something special to San Luis Obispo, from its distinctive flavors to the charm of its new shop. The ice cream shop is housed in the Alano Club Building, a two-story wood-frame structure built in 1912 in the city’s historic railroad district. Though the building has undergone numerous renovations over the past century, it retains much of its original architectural character, materials, and form.

For this renovation, TEN OVER STUDIO collaborated with Splendor to transform the ground floor into a handcrafted ice cream shop. Drawing inspiration from iconic mid-century Americana, the design embraces adaptive reuse by restoring and repurposing existing materials wherever possible rather than replacing them. Era-inspired colors, reclaimed wood flooring, wood trim detailing, and vintage-style lighting and hardware create a warm, layered interior that feels authentic to the building’s history and align with the client’s branding.

Additional features include custom-designed booths, a compact retail area paired with open shelving, a clean room for ice cream production, and a commercial kitchen and bakery.
