The Artists Library Courtyard

This proposed bay area library located in the downtown core of a vibrant coastal town exudes a coastal vibrancy and artistry which describes the core values of this seaside community. The building program includes a library, affordable housing units, and a central play and gathering courtyard.

Inspiration for the murals and colors of the building are directly pulled from the sense of place of the community. A strong surf, local artistry, and environmentally friendly vibe delegated the materials and graphics for the facade and landscape.

The courtyard’s layout directly mimics the ocean waves and coastline of the iconic city. A central play yard, lawn, and raised planters create diverse uses and gathering spaces for enjoyment. Raised vegetable planters for community engagement and artistic play structures tie the entire program together.
